It's official- I will have 4 pieces in Kettle's 4/21 show. The show will feature 21 artists with four paintings each. Woah- that will be a full house, eh? I was given 4 MDF boards of a specific size to produce works on. I primed each one with a coat of gesso and have started to work on the first piece.
I'm having some issues.
It is so weird when you get so accustomed to working on canvas. I am so familiar with how paint moves across canvas, that I am being thrown for a loop working on this MDF. Seems that MDF is pretty thirsty for oil and soaks it all up, leaving the paint chalky and difficult to maneuver. :(
Today I think I was starting to get the hang of things a little better- but am still frustrated.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions for how I can prepare my remaining MDF boards so that they don't soak up my oils? Worse case, I will just slap a couple more coats of gesso on them.
