So in the realm of News of the Obvious- a post every day for the month of June isn't quite happening, is it? Oh well, this is a start. I am fairly behind on sharing a couple of news items here.
First, there is the radio interview... Ever listen to Studio360 on NPR? Great show.
They were doing an online listener's poll asking if you had the opportunity to quit your job and be an artist full time, would you do it? Of course, I logged on and said I already did it. Apparently they actually read those things. Next thing you know, I am having a little interview with a super nice intern at Studio360. I thought they were just collecting blurbs to share online or on the air... Well, it turned into an actual phone interview with Kurt Anderson! I was nervous- and post interview I was convinced I would be cut from the segment... Somehow I didn't sound as horrible as I thought.
Anyway- here is 1 minute of my eventual 15 minutes of fame: http://studio360.org/episodes/2008/06/20
You can listen to the segment I am in by clicking on the play button under "Artist Survey" on the right side of the screen (I am at about the 3 min mark). In Dallas, the actual show is scheduled to air Sunday at 2pm.
In Show News- I finally finished and delivered my skateboard for the Art of Skateboarding charity auction. The show is tonight- but I am sure it is not too late to get tickets. Here is the info:

Two wonderful beginnings to report today!
First of all, The Marvelous and Talented Julie has finally answered the blogging challenge and started her new blog! Her first post has some great thoughts on being a DIY-er and the beauty of imperfection.
Go check her out: http://moddiy.blogspot.com/
I really look forward to seeing what else she has to say. She has truly been an inspiration to so much of the DIY-ers in Dallas through Make, her line Enju, and her support of all things creative. Her impact on me and what I do has been huge. There would be no freelisa tee line without her advise and support.
Second, Crooked Tree Coffeehouse is ready for their grand opening tomorrow!
I helped them out today by writing out their menu boards. Everything looks really great. I got to try a Mocha and also one of their special blends of Organic Fair Trade Coffee. They tasted delicious, and I was wired. Perfection. Next on my list to try is something called a "Jo". It is some sort of blend of Ice Cream (Bluebell!) and espresso. Yum.
They will be having live music all weekend for their opening. I will definitely be there Sunday evening at 5ish to watch a very talented act perform. Come join me?
I am currently struggling my way through the painting in the last post. It has come to my attention that I completely laid-out the body wrong in relation to the head. Weird, but somehow I managed it. Wouldn't it be easier if I used a projector? Yes, probably. I just can't shake the feeling that something will get lost in my paintings if I start using one. Oh well. Any strong opinions on that out there?
I am fully satisfied with 2 of the paintings I have finished for August. I love them. lots.
Peeks:
I have two other projects in the works right now that I am excited about.
First I am involved in a huge art show auction that is being put on by Guapo Skateboards. I'll be painting a deck for auction to benefit Scottish Rite Hospital.
The auction and party will be hosted at South Side on Lamar in the Janette Kennedy Gallery on June 20.... I suppose I should get started on painting my deck....
Also, there is a nifty new coffee shop going in on Routh in Uptown Dallas. I am really excited about it- the young ladies running the joint are super awesome. It will be a place for good coffee, good art, and good music...
Oh, and I designed the tees they will be selling there.
Pics of those coming soon!

Here is a peek at one of the paintings I am working on for my August show.
Geez, I know I know- it has been a loooong time since my last post on this blog thingy. Life has been wonderful and I have been soaking up every moment of it. I have been distracted by so many good things happening right now, that I just haven't been taking the time to document any of it here.
I have no new show news right now, other than my May show has had to be canceled due to the gallery closing. Sad, I really loved the space there at Van Ditthavong Gallery. However, it seems that the reason for the closing is that Van Ditthavong's photography has really taken off, taking up most of his time- so no time to run the gallery. So that is a good thing for him!
So, I will be searching for a new venue to hang in the next few months... But I suppose I could also use the break for painting my goal of 15-20 new pieces for August. I suppose I could also use the time for getting busier with Freelisa Designs tees (which, by the way, is transitioning to almost all Organic tees!). And I suppose I could use the time to continue having a blast with every day that I wake up.
more soon... really.
Yup. That is this Friday night.
Please come out if you are able to. It is a really lovely space, and I am so happy to be hanging there.
Also, while you are there, you can check out the beautiful jewelry designs of Suzana Gordon.
Opening Reception:
2.22.2008
6pm - 9pm
Suzana Gordon Design Studio

Dallas, Texas 75205
Also-- don't miss the lunar eclipse tonight!!!
Unfortunately, it will be quite cloudy here where I am tonight... But perhaps there will be a break in the clouds for a little peek at it.
Until soon--- Lisa
This afternoon I dropped off my piece for the El Corazon show at the Bath House cultural center. Jose Vargas, the curator, approached me to participate in this great show several months ago. I was very flattered and excited about the opportunity, and deliberated for a couple of months on what I would paint for the show. The only requirement I was given was that it must feature a heart.
"the offer" 24x36
By the looks of some of the other works I got a peek at, this should be a fantastic show. Please be sure and stop in to take a look.
here i am again. back from my little disappearing act.
no, it wasn't the NaPoBloMo that whittled me down into hiding- it was a combination of a number of things. many good things and some unfortunate things. for now, i'll refrain from going into any details- but all is good now. thank you to many of you friends out there who checked in on me out of concern for my absence here in this forum. i adore you all.
